Why do some other routes show faintly on the map?

Those are your flagged routes. Flagged routes from the list shown in the sidebar are drawn faintly, each in its own colour, behind the route you have selected. That way you see how a route relates to the ones you return to. The selected route stays on top at full strength.

• In a collection, its flagged routes show. With an activity selected, that activity's flagged routes show. Under All, every flagged route shows.
• At most 50 are drawn, the ones nearest the centre of the map.
• When you zoom out so far that routes turn into clusters, they are hidden.

In the route editor, flagged routes also show faintly behind the route you are editing, so you can plan around them.

Flag or unflag a route

Tick Flagged in the Overview section of the route inspector. Untick it to stop a route from showing in the background. The Flagged list in the sidebar shows all of them at once.
